BP Logix has released Process Director, which is designed to integrate project planning and BPM. Process Director enables business users to define and model sophisticated business processe
s through a project management-like interface. Process Director was developed specifically to address activity-based processes — those processes that traditionally have been forced to fit into flowcharts. Process Director models these non-linear activities as a Gantt chart — recognizing their conditions, constraints and timelines — then makes use of predictive analysis to determine if a future activity is likely to be completed on time or be delayed. Some business processes are non-linear, meaning that activities are not performed in any specific order. Rather they are dependent on other work being completed. Writing these “processes” effectively requires project management methods rather than traditional workflow modeling tools.
Process Director — a new solution from BP Logix available on Oct. 19 — is designed for creating activity-based business processes, according to an article posted today on the Software Development Times web site. Process Director, which uses a proprietary .NET-based state machine to run the activity-based process, exists as a layer on top of BPM and workflow software functions.

Jason Woodruff, project manager for TLT-Babcock, Inc., discovered that tracking the status and approval of paper forms was becoming increasingly time-consuming and error-prone. The form data was occasionally incomplete or inaccurate, tracking open issues was complex and resource-intensive and document control practices were becoming more cumbersome and inefficient.
“We needed a solution that would address all of these issues,” Woodruff said, “without creating additional work for the end users.”
TLT-Babcock, Inc. – a provider of engineered-to-order fans for the power, tunnel and mining industries – decided on Workflow Director from BP Logix as the solution. Woodruff talks about his Workflow Director project in a product review featured in the Sept./Oct. 2009 edition of Information Management Magazine.
According to Woodruff, Workflow Director has allowed his company to adopt a “best of breed” approach to integrating three legacy software systems, using Workflow Director as the “front end.”
